On February 27, the RA NA Vice President, Head of Armenia-Lithuania Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the RA Erikas Petrikas.

Welcoming the guest, the RA NA Vice President positively assessed the level of the development of the Armenian-Lithuanian relations, underlining Ambassador Petrikas’ efforts in the expansion of the inter-state and inter-parliamentary ties.

Eduard Sharmazanov congratulated the people of Lithuania on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of independence. He has underlined with gratitude the fact that Lithuania is the first country that recognized the RA independence, and until now the only country among the Baltic countries which recognized the Armenian Genocide.

The RA NA Vice President also touched upon the refusal of the condemnation and denilaism of the genocides. He noted that on the occasion of the 70th jubilee year of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide by the UN the Parliament of Armenia initiated to organize exhibitions with the heading The Parliamentarians against Genocide. It has been noted that on April 30, such exhibition against Turkish denialism is scheduled to implement in the capital of Slovakia Bratislava. Eduard Sharmazanov mentioned the possibility of organizing such exhibition in Lithuania.

Issues on the development of the RA-EU relations were discussed. By Eduard Sharmazanov’s assessment, Lithuania, as an EU member state, can be a reliable bridge in Armenia-European Union relationship. Regarding the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, he underscored the quick ratification of the document by the Parliament of Lithuania as soon as possible. In his turn, the Ambassador highlighted the signing of the RA-EU new Agreement which to him, creates new opportunities for the development of different spheres.
